The Stinton / Hand Duo

In September 2007 Jennifer Stinton, flute and Richard Hand gave a sold out Wigmore Hall concert, where they premiered works by Tom Armstrong, Edward Cowie, Stephen Goss and Jonathan Lloyd. They have also released a CD on Cadenza, ‘Hidden Tango.’

"Jennifer Stinton’s amazing fluidity and flexibility on the flute is revealed in this recording of highly lyrical music and Richard Hand provides the perfect collaborator for these duets, a task at which he is uncommonly good …
The sound quality from both instrumentalists is most natural and the recording has a good degree of intimacy surrounding it. With his virtuoso technique Richard Hand makes a perfect partner for Jennifer Stinton’s superbly graceful melodic playing and this duo work quite naturally and produce quality results from every track."

"I am very impressed with the performances on this disk. Of course, it is a delight to hear your rendition of the Hidden Tango . It was also with disbelieving ears that I listened to the virtuosic unison playing, at lightening speed!, that you and Jennifer are able to produce! What a pleasure to hear two such wonderful artists play the music of this repertory! I am truly honoured to be a small part of this project. Many congratulations."
Jerry Owen.

"Hidden Tango is full of light and attractive pieces, with the accurate and articulate flute of Jennifer Stinton accompanied by the colourful and many-sided guitar playing of Richard Hand. Stephen Goss’s suite of short pieces From Honey to Ashes, is full of gems – jazzy and poetic. There are plenty of opportunities for the guitarist to display a variety of effects, from percussive slaps and damped strings, to the more conventional gestures one might normally expect…..  I particularly enjoy Hand’s variety of colour, and his skilful vibrto."
